Henry Gorham

"Images of the Rural South"

Henry Gorham is a painter with an associate art degree from the Art Institute of Atlanta. His works have been shown throughout Georgia - at Fort Valley State College, the Harriet Tubman Museum, the John Marlor Art Center, Carriage Works Gallery of the GCA - and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in North Carolina. Henry operates a small art studio called "Arts of Sorts" in his hometown of McRae, GA.
Henry's paintings draw upon his experiences as an African-American growing up in the rural South. A series of paintings depict life in the mythical town of Small Grove, Georgia, peopled with preachers and grandmothers, children at play, fish fries and blues competitions at Annie Mae's Cafe. The artist captues the beauty of the rural landscape and the realistic moods of the fictional characters in his paintings, many of which are accompanied by written text giving the background of the scene depicted in the painting.
